Nihonto dealers in the UK? - 01-17-2010, 03:31 PM

Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a trusted nihonto dealer in the UK?

I'm not at the point of being ready to make a purchase yet (lots of research and learning to do first) but it would be good to know who to look out for. It seems that UK dealers are few and far between. I've found a few via Google but it's always good to get a recommendation from existing collectors.

Many thanks,
Matt

Hey Matt, I came across this place yesterday while surfing around. The site has quite a few antique Japanese swords. If you google the name there are a few good reviews also....

Cheers.

Yes I know of them - I live in the South East so it's not too far for me to visit. In fact I'm pretty sure I've been in there many, many years ago, just for a browse. From their website, they sound like quite knowledgeable people.

It would be good to see some genuine nihonto up close while reading up on the subject, so I might pay them a visit.

Thanks Paul, that's great. I'll pop in there the next time I'm passing by. Looks like he has some interesting stock.

Matt,

You should also make the trip to Birmingham militaria fair on Feb 14th. Plenty of swords to see and the Northern Token Society will have a stand.

Absolutely. I would like to browse around there one day, it looks really interesting, definitely a great research point.

Unless your a premiership footballer with money to burn I'd stay clear of Lanes Armoury. Everything is massively overpriced.
Stick to Don Bayney as Paul Martin mentioned and you'll do ok.

Hi Matt, have you considered joining the To-Ken society here in the South East? Not expensive, regular meetings and some serious knowledge. I can give you their details if you wish. Good luck and buy very very carefully.
Kind regards. David
