I'm guessing there's more to this than simply the literal translation??
"les porte-épées de parement"
from a excerpt of a book on 18th c French Court, specifically the Master of the Horse.

here is the full paragraph, for context:
La grande Écurie, dirigée par le grand écuyer, dit «M. le Grand», était composée de trois catégories d'officiers : ceux qui servaient quotidiennement, ceux des haras du Roi et ceux qui faisaient le service des cérémonies. Dans cette dernière catégorie figuraient les hérauts d'armes, les poursuivants d'armes, les porte-épées de parement et le corps des musiciens (38). Ces officiers avaient un rôle d'apparat. Les hérauts d'armes étaient les plus importants d'entre eux.

Well, 'parement' can mean ornamental, so I'd guess it loosely means 'an ornamental bearing sword' - ie., a sword of state or some similar weapon intended strictly for ceremonial procession. And these could be impressively large weapons.

Concurring with Christian's interpretation, let me add my own spin:
"Ceremonial sword-bearers".
Porte-epees (sword-bearers); de parement (of ceremony, of parade) ~ referred to both the bearers and the swords.
