Thumbs up Thanks to SRS for BFHS AGM event - 12-05-2005, 02:52 AM

We at Schola really enjoyed this - the classes were good, and we especially enjoyed those of Mr.Macintyre and Mr.Donnelly.
Also we'd like to send a special 'hey!' to Spike, Rupert and co from the Exiles, with which I understand my boys had much fun in the sparring hall.
I was also very pleased to meet Michael Cromarty of the Aberdeen Swordsmanship School and Alberto Bomprezzi of La Asociación Española de Esgrima Antigua - it's a shame we didn't get more time to talk. For me this is one of the most important elements of such events - to meet fellow researchers and practitioners, so I was pleased.

Well done Sussex Rapier School for organising another good BFHS event.

Regards,
Matt

Much as I would like all the credit actually the class was a join affort between myself and Gareth Hunt.

We could I suppose split all the compliments to me and all the criticism to Gareth but I suspect that the other way around would be more to his liking.

But I say hear hear to the compliments to the organisers.

I'm glad you all had so much fun. I saw Gordon's video, lots of schola people there.

BFHS AGM - 12-05-2005, 03:20 PM

I also would very much like to acknowledge the work put in by all to make this a very enjoyable event. As a member of the Aberdeen Swordsmanship Group, the drive down may have been overly long, but the rewards of meeting everyone in person far outweigh the long, sleepless hours in a van.

They were indeed excellent - as were the classes on the Sunday.

Nice taster - I'm looking forward to seeing the rest (and while Gordon's at it, I still want to see the one of him and me at Oxford, too. :-> )

For identification purposes, in the taster from 0:16 to 0:26, one of the combatants is Mike Smith, from Macdonald Academy of Arms.

A most excellent event with much to prove that the BFHS is maturing very nicely into a body worthy of respect.

I got to meet good friends from all over the UK, as well as unexpected friends over from Italy and the US, and get to know a few new faces and then get to beat them with sticks and swords which is always most satisfactory.

The Bartitsu was most entertaining- I have never seen so many folk take to carrying a walking cane to the pub before!

Of course winning the Glorianna Cup was a very nice finish to the weekend- it received a seat of its own in the taxi (complete with seatbelt) and many envious/curious stares on the flight as I had to take it on as hand luggage since it wouldn't fit in my case

I look forward to defending my title in Aberdeen (hint, hint Mike and Tim)

I'm sorry I could not defend the title on the sunday, but we just couldn't make it for the full two-days. I look forward to the chance to try and regain it though . I was going to ask who won it this time - congratulations Phil!
What's happening in Aberdeen - the AGM next year? Is there going to be another B-AGM do you know?

THANK YOU! - 12-06-2005, 05:03 AM

On behalf of the SRS and the 1595 Club, I would just like to say thank you to all of you who attended the BFHS AGM this weekend.

We felt that there was a great spirit to the occassion and you helped to make it, at least from our perspective, a very enjoyable and productive event and I know that our own members have been struck with a new enthusiasm for their studies of WMA and
really enjoyed meeting you all and exchanging conversations both verbally and with blades.

We look forward to meeting you all again soon.

Best Regards

It was a great event and I just want to say thanks to the organisers.

The Bartitsu by Mark Donnelly was really interesting. Made me laugh when I saw some of the people heading out to the meal with their walking sticks.

Tim - It may have been along journey but it was fun. I wonder what happened to that guy that got a bit wet.

Also I would like to know if there is a place where we can put/find pictures of this event

BFHS members can place photos on the group's mailing list's photo gallery.

If I remember correctly, our new President would also be interested in seeing any photos, as he's after a choice selection for the BFHS website.

Hi Andy,
As long as your group is a full member, which in your case it is, you send your email details to me and I can add you to it. Michael is already on it.

Alternatively you could contact Jonathan Miller, our Secretary, to place photos on the website.

Best regards

Duncan,

My email address is pandabean[@]gmail.com (just remove the [] around the @)

I have a fair few photos and a couple movie clips of some of the demonstrations (which I do not know if you would like as well).

Sounds like everyone had fun, good stuff, almost jealous, but I am having too much fun learning how to save lives! Respiratory system this week and 97% perfect CPR over 5 minutes - 100% to pass that little test though

Seriously well done all, and hoping that come the BGM I will be out on the road and not given all the rubbish shifts that I know I will get while on probationary year .

Regards and see you all soon.
Rob

Crawleys sig file is exactly as expected! No class, no humility.

Not at all like the first winner who was properly humble and far more handsome as well!

Actually Phil did very well and was in my view the best on display and therefore thoroughly deserved to win.

But yes it was a good event. A real shame I missed the Bartitsu due to my appraisal. Its an area of real interest to me. The 1595 clubs workshop in Savialo was excellent. Mr Gawley and I where shattered by the end but it really was a phenominal class.

I look forward to the BGM in Aberdeen as I know Micheal and his chaps will do a marvellous job.

I have been told by certain ladies that the third winner was even more humble and strapping, but I am not sure to whom they refer.

Good stuff. And anybody with sideburns even remotely like his surely deserves to win such manly contests constantly.

These are actually my "go faster grips"- I had the full Lemmy until a few months ago (hence all the references to RSMs in the sabre class) and at least I shall ensure my name is spelled correctly on the cup

I have put some "unusual" lessons together and maybe a demonstration for Michael so look forward to those in Aberdeen.

Actually Eston is just the medieval way of spelling Easton - they didn't like putting two vowels next to each other at the beginning of a name apparently... 3 Estons died at Agincourt..
Bob Hillyard obviously just has a sophisticated sense of humour .
