Master Sword completed -

Well, it's finally done, at least for pictures.
Keep in mind that everything you see was totally free handed/eye balled, as I have no machine tools.
Final specs;
Total weight, 3 pounds, 5 oz. A little more heavy than I wanted, but reasonable for a "real" sword.
POB, 5 1/2" from cross guard.
Total length, 36" even.
Blade steel, 5160, marquenched.
Cross guard, 7075 T-6 aluminum.
Pommel, 4340H steel
Gems, Amber from the Baltics
Composite, leather wrap handle, with wooden core, stabilized with Frankincense.
I'll post more pics later. hopefully showing some cutting. I need to build a decent stand first.

The dyed cross guard and pommel, take on a life of it's own. In low light, it appears purplish. In white/sun light, deep blue. Much like the sword in the games. Kind of unique not using paint or plating.

Tip detail.
It's not one of my best polishes. I left scratches on the flat, to add a satin finish for contrast, but left it as I just wanted to get it done. I also did not use the pitch lap on this.

That's a fantastic piece. Truly well done. A heavy dose of nostalgia is hitting me just looking at it, and I can faintly hear a legendary tune playing just on this side of the edge of hearing.

Thanks for all the kind words.
It was a challenge making a video game sword functional. I found out I suck at leather work, although this was my first try.
I have counter bore in the pommel, that I'm going to fill with lead shavings to improve the balance a wee bit.
Tried some new things on this one. The dye and amber glue and all. Gus helped a lot too in the design, although you can only do so much with a viddy game sword.
I'll make a cutting stand, although I'm no swordsman, I'll do an un official test. Jennifer will do the official review.

Funny you should mention that. The kids and I are making a "stone" pedestal for some good shots to send to Nintendo.

I looked at the pics from my computer at work, and it looks purple
It's blue on my home monitor. The strange refraction effect is impossible to photograph. For better or worse, it's purple some of the time and blue other times.

I found out that the sharpie I used for the layout lines, partialy masked the blade from the acid. It kind of went around the line, and I ended up with that. I can touch it up a little though.
EDIT: BTW, that's my daughter Terese holding the sword in the 1 pic. I kind of designed it around her grip.

As I was testing the harmonics, I decided to fill a few small gaps in the very end of the grip, to prevent excess tang vibration. it will be pure Frankincense, cutler's resin. It will hold like a crab on chicken liver!
BTW, I calculated the hours I have in this thing. I took away the "experiments" and came up with a conservative 150 hours total.
@ $ 30.00 an hour, that about equals a custom sword rate.
IF, and I mean IF I can replicate these things legally, that will be the basic fee. I would imagine I could get it down under 100 hours Materials included, less any special requests.
I post this info because a lot of people have asked. Hope I'm not violating any SFI etiquette .
I'm building a pure, cardboard cutting stand, in case I shank one  That's too many hours to risk

3.5 lbs is a bit heavy for me as a one-hander, but I'm sure I could wield it as a bastard sword. I might have to snag some tatami and a stand too...

Keep in mind I'm not done honing the edges. It's about steak knife sharp right now. I'll hone it to razor for Jennifer. Also I'm no swordsman
This was a clean cut, but the bottle knocked over. Don't know if it was because of my bad form or what.
