National Museum of Scotland demo pics - Ardshiel and MacGregor swords - 08-30-2007, 12:34 PM

Dear All,

Following the thread on legendary swords re-united, there were several folk asking for a video of the demonstration at the NMS in Edinburgh on the 29th July.

Well, we didn`t manage to have it recorded in full, but thanks to Neil Cardy of the Aberdeen Swordmanship Group, here are several images from the day, where I was ably assisted by Mike Smith, Free-fencer at the Academy -
It was great also to have Jay Maxwell travel all the way from near Oxford just for this event (and a good we dram of course ).

The swords of Ardshiel and MacGregor lend their unique presence.

Introducing Highland weaponry...

... tales of legend...

and legends themselves.

Facing off into guards with backswords.

Brief explanation and demonstration of technique.

Free fencing with backswords.

Just recently, on Saturday 18th August, I presented a slide-assisted talk and demonstration of Scottish Swords and Swordsmanship, ably assisted by Seb Jowett, Academy Free-fencer, at my own Highland home village of Glenuig, Moidart.

Ardshiel`s and MacGregor`s swords were present for likely their very last public appearance together, which was very well received and attended on the night by locals and visitors alike.

The last public exposition of these great swords was also my very first time presenting Highland swordsmanship demos in their homeland, thus taking the auld skills back home again, which has only furthered inspiration and plans for future Highland adventures by the Sword.

Yours Very Truly,

Macdonald

Thank you for sharing this, Paul! What a great way to show the swords together and present the swordsmanship of the time.

Cheers,
Henrik
