Absolutely with you bob,

condolences to the family. Brings it back to you that even as careful as we are with safety, what we do is dangerous.

That same type of accident happened to a jouster here in tampa, though it did not kill him. A splinter of the lance went through his helm and stuck in his eye. I believe he fully recovered, though not sure.

The man in question was Paul Allen a friend of mine from The Vicus roman group, there are many tributes to him spread across various reenactment forums.

Paul had been a reenactor for 13 years or so coming to the hobby late in life, but he gave it his all & took his love of history to many schools in talks on Greeks, Romans, Vikings & also the medieval periods.

His funeral was absolutely packed with friends & family wishing to pay their respects, he was a man who will be truly missed by many.

Thanks for sharing that with us Adam. This is indeed a tragedy.

I'm sure everyone who posts here at SFI would like to convey through you their sincere condolences to Mr Allen's family and friends.

Honourably,

Bob Brooks

Sorry to hear about this.
I'd like to think though, that his thoughts before the accident were, "Boy, I'm having fun!"
I hope to be thinking the same when my time comes.

Thanks to those in similar activities. You inspire me.

Cheers
