Question Help with Identification - 01-31-2010, 02:57 PM

I have what appears to be a WW1 or 2 very heavy trench knife or sword. the blade is 15" long, wood handle, 3 rivets through the handle, and it is a conventional handle, not a brass knuckles type, and it is marked on the base of the blade:

Jung
Wifn

On the side of the hand guard, it is marked;

S F4R 5 13

Any ideas as to it's orgin or identification?

I will post a pic as soon as I figure out the instructions on how to do so.

All comments welcome.

Ken

Jung - Clemen & Jung ? - German sword & bayonet makers

S F4R 5 13 could be a regimental marking.

Do need photos.

You do it by adding an attachment - go to Manage Attachments which is down the page from the box where you write your message.

You can then upload photos from your computer - at least I think it works like that !

Regards

Richie

Look for and click

When using the manage attachments page, ignore maximum file size if uploading an image from your computer's drive. You can also attach by inserting an image url on the manage attachments screen but that will only work if the file size is less than 100kb.

Take a look through the forum FAQ help section posted above by clicking the FAQ button. The basics and more are pretty well covered. If using the little landscape button to use img /img tags , try to limit width size of images to 800 dpi, so as to not make older monitors have to scroll sideways a bunch.

Click reply to start and not the quick reply window.

Cordially

Glen

Need Help With ID pictures now attached - 02-07-2010, 09:19 PM

I have now posted pictures of what I think is a WW1 or WW2 trench knife of some sort. It is about 22" long over all and quite heavy.
The inscription "JUNG WIFN' is on the blade, and there is a series of numbers and letters on the hand guard [see pics]
Any help in identifying this soword would be most welcome.

This is Austro-Hungarian pioneer's sword p/1915.
From one side of the blade you have JUNG (maker) and WIEN (city)
from anothe side possibly 5 FAR 513, 5th Field Artillery regiment, troop N513
