Sword Bags - 08-22-2006, 09:41 AM

I know I can buy a sword bag - ads. on ebay etc. - but I don't want to buy one.

I desperately want to make one!

I have made or renovated everything else on a sword - from polishing to making from scratch the fittings - including sayas, tsuba's, fuchi etc. But I do not know how to make a sword bag without "guessing" from available pictures.

Does anyone have access to an original pattern?

Hi,

If I had to do this I would have done it as following:

1. Buy (or borrow) a sword bag you like.
2. Take all the measurements.
3. Get a suitable piece of cloth.
4. Cut the piece(s) and sew them together. It would come handy if you know someone who owns a sewing machine.
5. Sell the original sword bag.

Myself being lazy I would have probably stopped at p.1

I make and sell sword bags. Some from fancy silky brocades, some from vintage obi silk.

You'll find some of my work for sale on ebay. My seller name is bogirl42.

I'm also happy to do custom sizes for swordspeople.

The info on the related thread is pretty much the same as what I do. Getting fusahimo (cord & tassels) is the hard part, the frickin' tassels are running $5-6 a pair now from my suppliers, more on ebay.

There sword bags do look great, I've seen them in my searches on eBay before...I must get around to buying one soon.

Custom bags - 09-11-2006, 03:19 PM

Pm me, and I'd be happy to make bags in custom sizes or complete daisho sets.

Sword Bag - 09-13-2006, 04:11 AM

Hi Tracy

Thanks for the offer but am desperate to make one myself - in particular, one that would be recognisable (apart from the stitching) as 18th / 19th century.

Have concluded that the only way is to buy a very old one and to then take it apart.

Sorry to bring this old thread anew.

But i recently purchased a Very Nice SwordBag from Tracy Harden through Ebay.

The Bag is of very good quality and is more then beautiful. I am very satisfied with the craftmanship and the "quality of service"!

Tracy was very understanding of my needs and answered all my questions rapidly. I received the bags about a week after purchase.

This was a great purchase!

Thank you Tracy for your excellent work!
